David Baxter with his best two-year-old bet at Newmarket on Thursday
Saint Lawrence
2.25 Newmarket
1pt win
Roger Varian is familiar with Saint Lawrence's family, as he also trains half-sister Daahyeh, who was a Group 2 winner last season as a juvenile, and twice a runner-up at Group 1 level.
That bodes well for this colt's level of ability, and while he should stay further in time, this looks a perfect place to start off.
Varian does well on the Rowley Mile with his juvenile runners, with a 20 per cent strike-rate last season (three from 15), which only dips a touch to 16 per cent for the last five seasons (nine from 56).
The yard have already been among the winners this week following racing's resumption, and Saint Lawrence looks to have a good chance of adding another success for the team.
