David Baxter with his best two-year-old bet at Lingfield on Friday

Twentysharesofgrey
12.55 Lingfield
0.5pt each-way

The two juvenile races at Lingfield on Friday do not make huge amounts of appeal as betting heats, but I am willing to chance a little outlay on Twentysharesofgrey, who was priced up early as one of the outsiders for the first division of the 6f maiden.

A cheap purchase, Twentysharesofgrey is by first-season sire Markaz, a tough and talented sprinter whose best performance of his career on RPRs came on the all-weather at Newcastle when winning the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes in 2016.

Dam Carsulae never made it to the track but has been a fine broodmare, and her progeny have shown a liking for the all-weather. Wasntexpectingthat, a four-year-old with Richard Fahey, has won four times on a synthetic surface from seven starts, while Itsakindamagic and Strada Di Carsoli are also all-weather winners.

Twentysharesofgrey's trainer Simon Dow has a decent 15 per cent strike-rate with juveniles on the all-weather in the last five seasons, (nine from 60), a slightly superior strike-rate than his overall percentage at the track for the same period of 13 per cent (31 from 231).

With a decent draw in stall four, Twentysharesofgrey can hopefully outrun her odds on her debut.
