It is sometimes hard to evaluate the form of confined sales races such as the Tattersalls Ireland-backed contest which formed part of the Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh recently.

With 30 runners spread across the track this was bound to be a rough race, and the main casualty was the Ger Lyons-trained favourite Medicine Jack, who encountered severe traffic problems before staying on strongly on the far-side to take third place behind the British-trained Orewa.

As is often the case in races of this nature a number of horses outran their odds. One such was 100-1 chance Gifted Lady who finished a respectable eighth and has since confirmed a reasonable standard of form by taking second in a Listowel maiden last week. She now makes a quick reappearance in Wednesday's one mile nursery (5.20) at Naas.
