Catterick Placepot picks: Richard Young with his perm for Wednesday's fixture

The shape of today’s afternoon meetings suggests there’s a better chance of a decent dividend at Catterick than at either Nottingham or Lingfield.

A tough apprentice handicap (1.00) starts proceedings and the two against the field are Stronsay (drawn 15) and Elzaal (drawn 4), who both place regularly and offer options should the field split – as is often the case in big fields over course and distance when the ground is on the soft side.

Getting through the second leg might be easier said than done but trainer form and a recent run offers hope for Baileys Liberty, while Tilly The Filly posted a solid effort on her handicap debut last month and is open to improvement.

Gamesters Icon, fresh from a spell over hurdles, looks interesting back on the Flat in the 2.05, while the normally reliable Bollin Neil should run his race, despite an absence since November.

Beluga Gold has run to a fair level on all his three starts and is a banker in an uncompetitive-looking 2.40 while Zumurud and Special Mayson both represent in-form trainers and are chosen in the 3.15.

The final leg (3.50) is trappy so we’ll take Myboymax, Jamil and Will He Dance, all of whom are fit from either spins over hurdles or on the all-weather.
