Calvinist foils big gamble on Blueyes

>>A huge gamble on Master Blueyes in the 1m6f handicap at York went astray when the 9-2 market leader couldn’t get past Calvinist. The runner-up had been a 16-1 chance early and traded at 1.23 in running on Betfair, but found the determined 16-1 winner too strong. Calvinist was matched at a high of 150.

>>Magic City was all the rage for the finale and went off 4-1 favourite having been available at as big as 20-1 early, but Mick Easterby’s runner was soon under pressure and never looked like landing the gamble.

Bertiewhittle came with a strong late run to get the better of Twin Appeal and deny backers of the runner-up at a low of 1.07.
