Bullets misfires as Regatta leads all the way at Ascot

The Stella Artois 1965 Chase at Ascot had been billed as a match between God’s Own and Dodging Bullets, but neither managed a place in the first two.

Dodging Bullets’ suspect stamina never got tested as he was pulled-up a long way out, but God’s Own also had some questions to answer and he didn’t last out the stiff 2m5f trip.

He did look the winner approaching two-out and traded at 1.17 in running, but could not get past the front-running Royal Regatta and was passed by Kylemore Lough, who nearly got to the winner, for second.
