Black Label could evoke fond memories

Isn't it great when old memories are evoked? Remember Cockney Lad? I knew you would. The top-class two-mile hurdler from the mid to late 90s was one of the reasons I started to love racing. I was only 11 when he won the 1997 Irish Champion Hurdle (then called the A.I.G Europe Champion Hurdle) but I still remember Richard Hughes gunning down Theatreworld close home.

Cockney Lad ran in the colours of Dan Daly, and Ado McGuinness pointed out the fact that Daly also owns Black Label after he won a 1m5f handicap at Navan last Friday night.

The very mention of Cockney Lad brought a smile to my face and we could be thinking about Noel Meade's 15-time winner again tonight if Daly is present at Killarney as he could be collecting a trophy after the Malton Handicap (7.30).
