Ayr Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway has a perm for Ayr Gold Cup day

With two of the toughest sprint handicaps of the season run on the same card, the Placepot on Ayr Gold Cup day is always a challenge but the dividend will be healthy if we can nail it.

The opening mile nursery (1.20) isn’t an easy starter, but Highland Premiere might be underestimated. He bounced back to form at Newcastle last time. Makalu should also go in.

Euchen Glen is a reliable horse and his class can get him a place in the Doonside Cup (1.55).

The Silver Cup (2.30) comes up next and coverage will be needed. Tinto could go well at a big price, but likely favourite Blackrod is also worth including, along with Soldier’s Minute.

Hala Hala Athmani is a big hope for the day in the Firth Of Clyde (3.05) and rates a banker.

Great Ambassador is the most likely winner of the feature Ayr Gold Cup (3.40). He could be a Group class sprinter in the making and must be included, along with the quirky Ostilio.

Revich was a disappointing favourite at Chester last week, but he is worth another chance in the mile handicap (4.15). Dance Fever is the in-form runner and looks the best alternative.
