Ayr Placepot picks: Richard Birch with his perm for the Flat action

Tatterstall should take plenty of beating in the two-year-old maiden (1.00) in the opening leg of Ayr’s Placepot.

The Michael Dods-trained colt ran well in defeat at Beverley on only his second start and holds an entry in Redcar’s Listed William Hill Two-Year-Old Trophy.

Professor Pesca, who cost £60,000 as a yearling, has been gelded after three qualifying runs for a handicap mark. He should make a bold bid in the nursery (1.35) with Signora Camacho, who brings form figures of 4322 into the race, also fancied to put up a good show.

Maple Jack, thoroughly unexposed as a sprinter on good or softer ground, makes plenty of appeal in the 6f handicap (2.10), in which the consistent Sixcor is unlikely to be far away at the finish.

A step up in trip could bring a bit more improvement from Classy Al in the 7f handicap (2.45), in which Vince Lombardi should also figure prominently on only his third start for Grant Tuer.

Archie Watson’s sole Ayr runner Noble Anthem will take plenty of beating in the 1m2f handicap (3.20), while Yaaser and last-time-out scorer Retirement Beckons may fight out the finish of the mile handicap (3.55).
