Ayr Placepot picks: Richard Birch with his fancies for the day's main meeting

Dornoch Castle, who holds a Group 1 entry in the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh, rates banker material in the 7f novice (1.50), the opening leg of the Ayr Placepot.

An impressive three-and-three-quarter-length winner on his debut at Haydock, the form of that race has been boosted by the runner-up Coco Jack’s comfortable Beverley success.

Polam Lane, a peak-form low-grade handicapper, can defy a 4lb rise for his recent Carlisle win in division one of the 6f handicap (2.25). Elladora should also go well.

Slainte Mhath, a fluent course-and-distance winner in May, may be able to follow up off 6lb higher in division two (3.00).

Somewhere Secret, who finished second to Slainte Mhath that day, has since got his name on the scoresheet at Nottingham. Giselles Izzy looks best of the three-year-olds.

Charging Thunder and Zuraig appeal in the 1m5f handicap (3.35), while Call Me Ginger gets the verdict in the 6f handicap (4.10).

Jim Goldie’s representative gave 14lb and a head beating to Jordan Electrics over course and distance last time, and the runner-up has since won easily at Hamilton.

Yaaser could still prove ahead of the handicapper, and rates the solution to the 7f handicap (4.45).
