Ayr Placepot picks: Richard Birch with a small perm at the Scottish course

Penalty Charge can bounce back from a below-par Leicester performance behind Lion Of War by landing Ayr’s 6f novice stakes (1.50), the opening leg of the Placepot.

Sent off 5-4 favourite at the Midlands track after forcing Coco Jack to a Hamilton photo-finish first time out – form that has been franked by the winner’s two subsequent successes – Penalty Charge holds strong claims.

Five-time Ayr scorer Flying Moon will rightly have plenty of supporters in the 1m2f handicap (3.35), while Final Account and Tiberio Smile are the two who catch the eye in the 5f handicap (4.05).

Shine On Brendan, beaten just once in his last four outings, remains on a sharp upward curve and looks the answer to the mile handicap (4.35).
