Awesome Betfair Chase hero A Plus Tard looks to be in a class of his own

One of my main joys in life is watching my son play basketball. Being very tall for his age, he’s at a natural advantage and he’s quite good, so I find myself getting pretty nervous every time he sets foot on the court.

Clearly I could never be a jumps trainer because watching horses I had spent ages nurturing race would scare me silly. I would never sleep a wink.

The likes of Henry de Bromhead must get used to it, but on Saturday even he must have been feeling the pressure with two of his brightest stars setting out on their paths to Cheltenham in March. Both passed with flying colours and no doubt the relief was ten times what I feel if my son’s team wins, although to be honest there was never a moment’s doubt for either Bob Olinger or A Plus Tard.
