Ascot Placepot picks: Paul Kealy with his Saturday selections

As a youngster doing the Placepot I was always told, if there was a four-runner chase, to put all four in as a surprise result would guarantee a decent payout.

It works less often than you would imagine, but you can't really rule out any of the chase debutants in Ascot's opener (1.30) even if is by far the most likely winner, so I would put all four in.

This doesn't strike me as a pool that will pay well without an opening shock, so I won't be going mad. After that I'll be going straight into banker mode with in the second (2.05).

While he's not trustworthy for win purposes but has shown more than enough to suggest he's a better than his mark of 130 and it will be a struggle to find three good enough to beat him.

The next (2.40), is far tougher, but I'm happy that Gumball is well enough handicapped to play a major part. While in the feature, I'm be hopeful that is considerably better than his mark and ready to do himself justice.

In the fifth (3.50), and Blow Your Wad have some decent bumper form, with my preference marginally for the former. In the last and would be my two selections against the likely warm favorite Sophosc, who might have blown his mark in a poor race at Fakenham last time.
