Ascot Placepot picks: Paul Kealy with a big perm for a hugely competitive card

Most of my punting will take place at Ascot, so that's the obvious destination for a Placepot, and we'd better go with two in the first (1.35) as there are only seven runners.

I'll take the favourite on, though, with Sizable Sam joining main selection Sam Barton. The former has the size and scope to make a chaser and his yard is in good form.

The next (2.10) is the toughest race on the card, but Boothill has bags of promise and he can go in with Leoncavallo and Miss Heritage, whose form chances are better than their odds suggest.

One For Rosie and Frero Banbou are the two to go to war with in the 2m handicap chase (2.45), while in the featured London Gold Cup (3.20) favourite Vinndication can be relied on to give his best around here, so he goes in with the well-handicapped but riskier play Jerrysback.

A novice hurdle comes next (3.55) and it could well be fought out by a couple of useful bumper horses making debuts over hurdles.

Peking Rose is the form horse from the bumper scene, having finished second in the Grade 2 at Aintree in April, but in March Shallwehaveonemore thrashed a horse Nicky Henderson was very complimentary about in his recent stable tour, and he has to go in too as he could be a new star for Gary Moore, who does well at this fixture.

That leaves a tricky eight-runner handicap hurdle to finish (4.30), with the prospect of a non-runner or two if the course gets all the rain that is forecast.

Conditions shouldn't be an issue for the in-form Grangeclare Glory, with the other suggestion being Nashville Nipper.
