Aintree Placepot picks: Paul Kealy provides his perm for day two of the meeting

Langer Dan is undoubtedly the one to beat in Aintree's opener (1.45) but he didn't have the best experience when brought down and going head over hooves at Cheltenham and I'll be leaving him out of Placepot consideration.

He'll doubtless take a fair chunk of the pool with him anyway, so instead I'll be going with the ultra-consistent , , who ran so well after a long layoff in January, and main bet .

There are bankers to come anyway and one of them is in the next (2.20). I'm not convinced he's a two-miler but this looks a weak enough renewal and getting him out of the frame is going to be hard.

It wouldn't surprise me if any of , L'Homme Presse or won the third (2.55), so as it is win-only I'm going with all three just to get through and then banking on in the next (3.30) as he's a genuine Grade 1 horse and you can pick holes in all his rivals.

There's the small matter of 30 runners to deal with in the Topham (4.05), but will surely be on the premises after his fine Kim Muir second when just outstayed.

Also going in is , who probably didn't want the ground quite as soft in the Greatwood last time, but ran well and shaped like a little further would help.

, who likely doesn't want the ground as deep as it was at Haydock last time, and , back on song when beating Peking Rose at Newbury, are my two for the last (4.40).
