Aintree Placepot: Paul Kealy provides his Grand National day perm
It's a good job there are a couple of Placepot bankers at Aintree on Grand National day as that should at least leave us a bit of wriggle room for some difficult races.
Of course, if anything untoward happens to (2.25) and/or Shishkin(3.00) we won't be able to share in a vastly increased payout, but the former should easily finish in the first three and it will be a major shock is Shishkin doesn't win easily.
The opener (1.45) is altogether more difficult, with 22 runners, but I do like the chances of in first-time cheekpieces, while old boy Unowhatimeanharrycan't be dismissed despite his age.
I've always thought Janikawas worth trying at 3m despite the fact he ran in the Tingle Creek at the start of last season (he won over 2m6f on heavy as a five-year-old in France) and he's the third choice.
The Stayers' Hurdle (3.35) is probably not quite as straightforward as it looks, but you'd be brave to leave out both and Thyme Hill.
I'll stick with the former as the latter had a muscle issue that ruled him out of Cheltenham, and I'll add , who keeps on improving this season and shapes as though Aintree will suit.
Leg five is just about the worst type of Placepot race as there are just three places up for grabs and 15 runners. The front three in the betting all had hard races at Cheltenham but that doesn't mean they won't back them up, and Happygoluckyis the obvious one from those.
He goes in with , who looked a horse on the up when winning first time up this season and has had a break since a fall last time.
The final leg is obviously the Grand National, and while it would be good to get out of the frame, he does boast outstanding claims.
He is one of my four against the field, the others being 2019 Irish National winner , and .
