The run-up to any auction can try the nerves of even the most hardy of vendors, and there can be fewer bigger tests of a seller's mettle than Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which begins its three-day run at Park Paddocks in Newmarket today.

However, there are a handful of fortunate consignors whose nerves will have been calmed not by the more traditional and less wholesome methods, but by favourable results from the previous weekend's big races.

One such example is Meon Valley Stud, who arrived at the auction fresh from a Group 1 success at Chantilly on Sunday. The stud's four-year-old daughter of Shamaradal, Speedy Boarding, battled to a short-head success in the Prix de l'Opera, and her half-brother by first-season sire sensation Frankel is due to come under the hammer as lot 5.
