Tattersalls Ireland: eye-catching lots include a half-brother to Hidden Cyclone
First day of the auction at Fairyhouse took place on Tuesday

A €52,000 son of Kapgarde topped the first day of the two-day Tattersalls Ireland August National Hunt Sale on Tuesday during a low-key opening session.

The first instalment of this year's sale, which has been compressed into two days, played host to a muted and selective level of trade with the clear standout being the son of Kapgarde who was making up for missing his engagement at the Derby Sale here in June.

The Mocklershill-consigned French-bred is out of a useful four-time winner in France and he attracted plenty of interest before the hammer came down in favour of Gerry Griffin, who has long been one of the foremost purchasers at this sale.

"He's been bought to go to Nicky Richards and he's for an existing client of the yard. These nice ones are hard to buy," said Griffin.
