The Rothschild family's storied Waddesdon Stud is to completely disperse of its stock, with part one of the dispersal to take place on the first day of this year's Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

The initial consignment will comprise 14 mares in foal and two fillies in training, all of whom will be offered by the Castlebridge Consignment.

Among the highlights are the 2014 Pretty Polly Stakes scorer Thistle Bird, who is pregnant to Kingman, and fellow Group 1 winners Magical Romance and Spinning Queen, who are in foal to Gleneagles and Nathaniel respectively.

Thistle Bird was trained by Roger Charlton for her owner-breeder Lady Rothschild, who died in January following an illness.

The homebred daughter of Selkirk ended her racing career on a high by winning the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, and will be joined in the sale by her stakes-winning dam Dolma, who will be offered in foal to Sea The Moon.

Magical Romance and Spinning Queen were the top two lots at the 2006 Tattersalls December Sale, when acquired by the Rothschild family through James Wigan's London Thoroughbred Services for 4,600,000gns and 3,000,000gns respectively.

Among the other mares on offer are Rocksavage and Willoughby, both half-sisters to the elite winners Great Heavens, Nathaniel and Playful Act and out of the blue hen Magnificient Style.

Nathaniel, whose daughter Enable was only just denied by the fast-finishing Waldgeist in her historic Arc bid on Sunday, carried Lady Rothschild's colours to victory in the 2011 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and in the Coral-Eclipse a year later.

The two fillies set to be offered are the promising Kodiac three-year-old Gallic, who is out of Spinning Queen's Listed-winning daughter Gallipot, and the Nathaniel three-year-old Wild Cat, a half-sister to the Listed-winning sprinter Growl.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The late Lady Rothschild assembled an outstanding band of broodmares and enjoyed some wonderful successes in recent years, perhaps most notably with Enable's sire Nathaniel, when he won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in her famous colours.

"It is fitting that two of Nathaniel's sisters will be amongst the highlights of this first stage of the Waddesdon Stud dispersal, which we are proud to be conducting on behalf of the Rothschild family."

This year's Waddesdon Stud foals, the remaining breeding stock - including Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens - and horses in training will be offered at the appropriate Tattersalls sales next year.

"Lady Rothschild loved her racing and was a highly enthusiastic and successful breeder, and the quality of the stock reflects her commitment to breeding the very best," said James Wigan.

"She and her family have enjoyed a long association with Tattersalls and the uniquely international sales at Park Paddocks will provide the best possible showcase for the Waddesdon Stud dispersal."
