Love of Deep Impact sees Fipke make foray into JRHA Select Sale
Diamond mining magnate plans to seek a Japan Racing Association owner's license
Inspired by a desire to participate in more international racing as well as his admiration for Deep Impact and the blood of Sunday Silence, Canadian-based diamond mining magnate Charles Fipke plunged into the Japan Racing Horse Association Select Sale on Monday, purchasing a yearling filly for ¥125 million (£940,188/€1,102,243).
“I'm just so happy to acquire such a beautiful horse,” Fipke said during an interview with a Japanese television broadcaster. “This is my first trip to Japan and we just love it here.”
The filly is a half-sister to American Grade 1 winner Star Billing and is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Topliner, an unraced half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winners Stellar Jayne and Starrer.
