Farrington has Eminent grounds for hoping that lightning will strike twice
Agent buys another Frankel yearling outside the ring
Martyn Meade has enjoyed a fine time of it with a son of Frankel this season, the progressive Eminent having landed the Craven Stakes and Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano in impressive fashion. And the Sefton Lodge handler will now have a daughter of the dual world champion to go to war with next season, after agent Dermot Farrington snapped up the filly out of Ladies Are Forever for £180,000 in a private sale during Tuesday's session of the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale.
The filly, the first progeny of Frankel to come under the hammer at the Premier Yearling Sale, failed to draw the required level of interest when taking her turn in the Doncaster ring, and was led out when the bidding stalled at £160,000. However, Farrington was not ready to draw stumps on the filly catalogued as lot 120.
"We followed her through and we thought she'd make a fair bit more," said Farrington, who also struck for Eminent in a deal outside the ring. "But we chased up the vendor and were able to get a deal done. In Australia I think I'm up to my fifth Group 1 winner that was passed in – horses like Absolutely, Abbey Marie and Ike's Dream – so I'm not afraid to buy horses off the board.
The filly's female line matches the appeal of her sire, as she is the first foal out of the admirably tough Ladies Are Forever. This daughter of Monsieur Bond carried owner Reg Bond's familiar yellow and black silks to victory in eight races, including three renewals of the Group 3 Summer Stakes and four Listed races.
"Frankel has a big tall horse in Eminent, he has Toulifaut that's much smaller, if you lined up all his stakes winners they all look different," added Farrington. "This filly has a good bit of length to her and is still quite immature, and we're of the opinion that she'll be an improver.
"With the way Frankel is going at the moment, I think it's going to become increasingly difficult to get your hands on them. I've bought a few privately recently, to go to Japan, so I know how hard they are to buy. When you see the first foal out of a highly-rated mare – and the catalogue page almost does Ladies Are Forever a disservice – I think she has to be well worth a shot."
With a profile bearing more than a little similarity to that of a colt being talked up as a possible Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe candidate in Eminent, the daughter of Frankel and Ladies Are Forever looks well worth keeping an eye on.
