Coplow, the dam of the weekend’s comeback queen Billesdon Brook, is to be offered in foal to Kingman at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

The Manduro mare forms part of a wonderful dynasty nurtured by Jeanette McCreery and her late husband Bob from their Stowell Hill Stud in Somerset.

Her first two foals are the Listed-winning Billesdon Bess, who sold for 800,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls December Sale, and Billesdon Brook, the surprise conqueror of Laurens in last year’s 1,000 Guineas.

The latter has gradually returned to the fore again this season, rising up through Listed and Group 3 events to finally strike again at the highest level in Saturday’s Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

Whether this announcement hastens the four-year-old’s retirement to the paddocks remains to be seen - trainer Richard Hannon reported after the race that a decision would have to be made by Jeanette McCreery - but her mother is sure to be in strong demand when the sale begins on December 2.

Now ten, she is a half-sister to the Group 3-winning trio of Anna Nerium, Middle Club and Piping Rock, all of whom raced in the McCreery colours. Her dam Anna Oleanda is out of the German champion Anna Paola and appropriately by Irish Derby and Prix du Jockey Club winner Old Vic, who was also bred by Jeanette McCreery's late husband Bob.

She was covered by sire-of-the-moment Kingman on March 16 and is believed to be carrying a colt. Coplow, whose 2016 Showcasing daughter World’s Fair also made 380,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls, has a two-year-old daughter by Sepoy in training with Hannon and also has a colt foal by Dubawi, who is the sire of this year’s Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner Anna Nerium.

Commenting on the sale, Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "It is rare for such a young dam of a Classic winner to be offered for sale and Billesdon Brook’s win in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes was a fantastic update to an already outstanding pedigree.

"As well as producing a Classic winner and a stakes winner with her first two foals, Coplow is in foal to one of the world’s most exciting young sires in Kingman and she is a wonderful tribute to Jeanette McCreery and her late husband Bob, who have bred so many great racehorses over the years."
