"Bid of 85,000gns enough for us to secure an Iffraaj filly"

Johnny Hassett gives an insight into how a breeze-up consignor operates

The sale may start at 10am but showing starts at 8am so I get to Tattersalls in plenty of time to start inspecting yearlings. We've seen just about all the horses we want to see from Monday and Tuesday's session at least once so I to work my way through Wednesday's horses.

We only have three on our day-one shortlist and one of them comes very early in the session, so once the bell sounds for the start of trade I make my way up to the sales ring. Jeremy Brummitt, Seven Hills' bloodstock consultant, was very keen on a filly by Iffraaj out of the unraced Danehill mare Danehill Dreamer. The cross has produced the likes of Group and Grade 1 winner Chriselliam and Nathra - the Group 3 winner that was placed in the French 1,000 Guineas - among other good horses. She's certainly statistically persuasive, she shares her page with The Fugue and Limato, and we both feel the physical matches up to the page so we decided to go in on her.

There wasn't many people knocking about the sales ring early on so, without too much opposition, a bid of 85,000gns was enough for Edmond Mahony to knock her down to us.
