Goffs will review the expanded format of the Sportsman's Sale after the 2016 edition continued the downward trend in sales towards the middle and lower end of the market as the problems of overproduction become a bigger worry.

The average and median dropped back to 2014 levels and clearance rates were in line with those of the 2015 foal sales, an outcome that had been expected.

Henry Beeby, group chief executive of Goffs, issued a stark warning about the continued decreases in the yearling market first noted at Doncaster, which continued through Fairyhouse and on to Goffs.
