Ballymacoll dispersal filly lights up early trade at Goffs

Ballymacoll Stud began the disposal of their regally bred horses at Goffs on Thursday morning and the sale of an aristocratic filly lit up the ring early on.

Edith Wharton, a three-year-old daughter of Dubawi out of the brilliant Islington, was the third lot into the ring on Thursday morning and, for a time, it appeared that buyers had yet to wake up as bidding on the impeccably-bed bay filly was sluggish to start.

It soon livened up and a number of bidders brought the price north of €100,000 and pushing ever higher.

In the end the successful bidder at €200,000 was Andy Smith, bidding on behalf of Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm, who were busy buying lots in the Wildenstein dispersal at Goffs last Autumn.

“She will probably go to France and be covered by Siyouni,” revealed Smith. “She will remain in Europe for the time being but could eventually be sent to America.”
