As buyers from around the globe crowd into Lexington, the world’s largest yearling auction begins in Keeneland today with a catalogue featuring the offspring of an impressive group of first-crop sires and horses offered on behalf of internationally prominent operations including Coolmore and Godolphin.

No fewer than 24 first-year stallions are listed among sires of the 4,479 yearlings catalogued for the 13 sessions that will extend through to September 25.

Kentucky Derby winners Orb and Animal Kingdom and Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow lead the stallions represented by their first crops, and they are joined by champion Shanghai Bobby and his fellow Breeders’ Cup winners New Year’s Day and Fort Larned.
