Major player in Far East for 25 years

While the far east seems veiled in mystery to many westerners, major participants in international racing are starting to discover the evolving world of Japanese bloodstock through the exploits of Japanese runners around the world and the annual Japan Racing Horse Association Select Sale, which took place last week.

Among those who are not Japanese, probably no–one understands this unique market and the people who are the major players in the land of the rising sun better than Irish–born, US-based bloodstock agent John McCormack.

McCormack, who was advising a Coolmore team including MV Magnier, David O'Loughlin and Dermot Ryan at the JRHA sale in Hokkaido last week, has been travelling to Japan and buying and selling horses to and from Japanese owners for 25 years. Last year, he helped Kentucky's WinStar Farm in its first foray to the JRHA sale, buying three yearlings and two foals for a total of $1,709,681.
