Wonderful weekend for exciting young producer Hyde

Elimay and Goshen combined to make it a wonderful weekend for exciting young producer Hyde, a 12-year-old daughter of Poliglote who could claim to be one of the most promising National Hunt broodmares around.

The run of success began when Gary Moore's charge Goshen posted his sixth consecutive win and third over hurdles in the highly regarded Ascot IJF Ambassador Programme Juvenile Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday, in which he finished 11 lengths clear of his opposition despite the vet stating he had lost both front shoes.

The four-year-old Authorized gelding joined subsequent Grade 1 winners Grandouet (2011), Balder Succes (2012) and Top Notch (2015) on the roll of honour, and has since received quotes as short as 5-1 for the JCB Triumph Hurdle in March.

A day later, his six-year-old half-sister Elimay - to whom he is closely related - upheld family honour when making it four on the bounce in the Grade 2 Coolmore NH Sires Capri Irish EBF Mares Novice Chase at Thurles, staying on well for a nine-length win.

The €310,000 top lot at the 2017 Arqana Autumn Mixed Sale when signed for by Horse Racing Advisory, the Montmartre mare jumped into contention for the Grade 1 Marsh (formely the JLT) Novices' Chase, for which she is priced at 20-1.

Goshen and Elimay were bred by Christophe Toulorge out of Hyde, who also has a three-year-old full-sister to Goshen in training with Francois Nicolle named Harrisburg and a two-year-old Camelot filly named Somoli.

Hyde ran five times over hurdles for trainer Yannick Fouin and was bred by Haras du Quesnay and Toulorge out of a winning daughter of Sillery, who is noted as the damsire of Battleoverdoyen.

Hyde is also a granddaughter of the dual Listed winner Camarange, whose four black-type performers include the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin runner-up Ibn Alnasr.

Hyde's five offspring - including a seven-year-old daughter by Montmartre - are all by stallion sons of Montjeu, meaning they are inbred 3x3 to the great Sadler's Wells.

That follows a recent trend in National Hunt racing in which more and more runners are appearing with similarly close inbreeding to Coolmore's former champion sire.

There are many other National Hunt runners of note with close inbreeding to Sadler's Wells including the Grade 1 winners Allmankind, Augusta Kate, Commander Of Fleet, Footpad, Pentland Hills, the late Sir Erec and Tiger Roll, with the latter bidding for his third Aintree Grand National win this year.
