Triple Group 2 winner Mutasaabeq retired to stand at the National Stud
Shadwell's regally bred triple Group 2 winner Mutasaabeq has been retired from racing and will stand at the National Stud for 2024.
The son of Invincible Spirit and 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes heroine Ghanaati was a high-class performer for Charlie Hills, winning his sole start at two at Newmarket in October that year.
He was a six-length winner the following spring in a Newmarket conditions race and won another similar event at Haydock after running in the 2,000 Guineas and Jersey Stakes. Last spring he won a Thirsk conditions event and then finished a neck second in the bet365 Mile at Sandown and then placed in the Diomed Stakes and Summer Mile Stakes.
He earned his first Group 2 score with victory in the Joel Stakes and then defeated champion juvenile and Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Native Trail this spring in the bet365 Mile at Newmarket. His final start came when landing a second Joel Stakes in September.
A Shadwell homebred, his dam is a half-sister to Group winner Mawatheeq and to Listed winner and Park Hill Stakes second Rumoush, the dam of four black-type winners or performers.
The trio are in turn out of Oh So Sharp Stakes winner Sarayir, a Mr Prospector half-sister to champions Nashwan and Nayef as well as the high-class Unfuwain. Their dam is Hamdan Al Maktoum's formidable blue hen, Height Of Fashion.
Angus Gold, Shadwell's racing manager, said: "Mutasaabeq was a wonderfully consistent horse, winning a total of seven races over four seasons, including three Group 2 races; I feel sure that his temperament and soundness, allied to his outstanding looks and excellent pedigree, will give him every chance of succeeding at stud."
Hills added: "Mutasaabeq was a pleasure to train and remained tremendously sound throughout his career, winning his novice as a two-year-old and racing at the highest level to win three Group 2s. Mutasaabeq had a great cruising speed and his looks certainly matched."
He will stand for an opening fee of £6,500. The roster is headed by champion stayer Stradivarius, who remains at £10,000, while Time Test has been trimmed to £8,500 (from £15,000) this year. The roster is completed by Lope Y Fernandez (£8,500) and Rajasinghe (£3,000).
