Timely debut for Dubawi colt out of Arc heroine Danedream
Faylaq will contest the same novice stakes won by Old Persian
With fillies and mares having won seven of the past ten runnings of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Nathaniel filly Enable seeking a repeat win when the race returns to Longchamp on Sunday, a son of the 2011 winner Danedream will make his timely debut at Newmarket on Saturday.
Derby entry Faylaq, a two-year-old colt by Dubawi, is set to line up under Dane O'Neill in the British EBF Crown At Stowupland Novice Stakes (2.40), with nine other newcomers among the 13-runner field.
At 1.5 million guineas, Faylaq was among the top ten lots sold at Book 1 of the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, when purchased by Shadwell from the Newsells Park Stud draft to be trained by William Haggas.
Bred by Teruya Yoshida of Northern Farm in Japan, part-owner of Danedream at the time of her Arc success, Faylaq is the third foal out of Danedream, whose other runner Solid Dream has failed to place in two starts in Japan.
Danedream is one of three European Pattern winners out of the unraced Danehill mare Danedrop, along with Chester Vase scorer Venice Beach and Group 3 winner Broadway. Danedrop is a granddaughter of the 1973 Prix Royal-Oak winner Lady Berry.
Dubawi has covered no fewer than four Arc winners – his liaison with Zarkava in 2012 resulting in Group 1 winner and Haras de Bonneval sire Zarak, while dual winner Treve has a yearling colt and the 2012 scorer Solemia a colt foal by Europe's most expensive advertised stallion.
Faylaq faces no easy task on debut as among his opponents are three others by Dubawi.
They are the winning colt Turgenev, out of French Group 2 winner Tasaday; 240,000gns colt Accountability, who makes his first start; and Franz Kafka, a sister to the Listed-placed Kazimiera out of stakes scorer Kailani.
Another son of the sire, Old Persian, was a near five-length winner of the same race last year and won the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot this year.
Also making her debut in the race is the filly Truly Adored, who at €500,000 was the most expensive Dabirsim yearling sold at public auction to date.
