'There's live money everywhere' - how the yearling sales season is shaping up

Strong trade has been in evidence across the key early European dates

Another week, another sale, yet more lively trade. That has been the story of this year's European yearling sales. With nine key dates now consigned to the past, the industry has quickly reached something approaching an unofficial halfway point in the sales season.

The latest event was the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, which concluded with a clearance rate of 90 per cent and new records set for aggregate, average and median prices, results very much in keeping with the overall themes this year.

As will always be the case regardless of wider circumstances, some sales will prove stronger than others. But, broadly speaking, Arqana's August and V2 events, Goffs UK's Premier and Silver sales, BBAG, Tattersalls' rebooted Somerville auction, Osarus and parts one and two of Tattersalls Ireland's September have all supplied encouragement to varying degrees.
