The tone of this year’s edition of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale was set in the first ten minutes. Lot 1, a sister to Line Of Duty, made 500,000gns to Ted Voute and Nawara Stud, which was followed immediately by Godolphin’s 1,300,000gns acquisition of the Dubawi filly out of Jazzi Top.

What followed over the three sessions of selling was nothing short of remarkable.

Sixteen lots sold for 1,000,000gns or more, headed by the year’s most expensive yearling, the Frankel colt out of So Mi Dar bought by Godolphin for 2,800,000gns. And spending was not concentrated solely in seven-figure territory, as 73 yearlings fetched 500,000gns or more, while 338 of the 424 sold lots brought a six-figure sum.
