To repeat a word used by our sales correspondent James Thomas at the conclusion of the four-day Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale on Thursday evening, the gains were monstrous.

Strength in depth of trade was phenomenal, with heightened interest from international buyers and rock-solid domestic demand seeing turnover soar to a record 31,471,300gns for 1,003 lots sold.

A significant marker for any sale, but particularly one with a thick catalogue spread over a few days, is the clearance rate, and here a whopping 92 per cent of horses who took a turn in the Park Paddocks ring left it having sold.
