Tatts International Horse Trials the latest big event to get called off
Popular social occasion takes place each year at Tattersalls Ireland
This year's Tattersalls International Horse Trials, due to be held at Tattersalls Ireland from May 27 to 31, is the latest event to fall victim to the coronavirus crisis.
The cancellation of the popular social occasion, which comprises dressage, cross country and show jumping as well as a country fair, shopping village and children's activities, was confirmed in a statement released by Tattersalls Ireland on Thursday.
"Following the government's increasing Covid-19 public health restrictions we are sorry to announce that it is no longer possible to stage the Tattersalls International Horse Trials in any capacity between May 27 and 31," it said.
"These are extraordinary and demanding times for everyone and the health and safety of all those who attend and are involved with Tattersalls remains our overriding priority.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we are conscious at all times of our dual responsibility to the requirements of the many stakeholders involved in the Tattersalls International Horse Trials and the wider public health issues which have overtaken normal daily life throughout the world."
The Tattersalls International Horse Trials operates a refund policy and ticket holders will be contacted with information on how to claim in due course.
Tattersalls Ireland announced on Wednesday that its May Store Sale had been rescheduled to become a third day of the Derby Sale in June.
