South African breeders have long made a profitable habit of transforming moderate American and European horses into top sires, and in Ideal World, a son of Kingmambo out of international champion Banks Hill, they have apparently found another who could leave a notable mark.

With his first crop foaled in autumn 2011, Ideal World has already sired multiple Group 1 winner Smart Call, a mare now poised for an unprecedented attempt to plunder elite prizes in Britain and the US.

Smart Call arrived at Abington Place in Newmarket on Wednesday after a gruelling journey that took her through Mauritius, Kenya, Belgium and the Netherlands so she can train for the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes on the Rowley Mile in October. After competing in that race, plans call for her to fly to California and run in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita.
