Son of Classic heroine Jet Setting to debut at Windsor
Al Barez is a graduate of the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale
Al Barez, the second foal out of Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Jet Setting, is set to make his racecourse debut for Tom Clover and Raed El Youssef in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (4.45) at Windsor on Tuesday.
Bred by China Horse Club and picked up by Star Bloodstock and Byron Rodgers for £180,000 at last year's Goffs Orby Sale, the son of Dark Angel did not sell when reaching £150,000 at the relocated Arqana Breeze-Up Sale in Doncaster but then made £185,000 to Global Equine Consultant Services at Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge.
The top-class Jet Setting, a daughter of the late Fast Company, enjoyed her finest moment on the track when downing the mighty Minding in the 2016 Irish 1,000 Guineas, while she also claimed a brace of Group 3s, including the Concorde Stakes by six and a half lengths.
Trained by Adrian Keatley, having swapped from Richard Hannon's yard at the end of her juvenile career, she won four of her 13 starts and placed in three others.
Just a €7,000 purchase by Woodstock from Brian Duffy at the 2013 Goffs November Foal Sale, Jet Setting was subsequently picked up for 12,000gns by Kilbride Equine at the 2015 Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale.
She fetched a rather more significant £1,300,000 when selling to China Horse Club from Adrian Keatley Racing at the Goffs London Sale in 2016.
Jet Setting's first foal, a colt by Le Havre called Sun Reef, was exported to France, while her yearling Showcasing colt is now in Japan.
Al Barez is set to face 14 rivals in the six-furlong contest, including the once-raced Altai, a son of Territories out of an unraced half-sister to Prix Robert Papin winner Tis Marvellous, and Olympic Eagle, Jeff Smith's Gleneagles colt from the family of top-class sprinter Lochsong.
