Sisters of Farhh and Coronet to make their racecourse bows at Chelmsford
Essex track stages intriguing mile and a quarter novice event
Sandown and Haydock will be the focus of attention on Saturday afternoon but for a glimpse of the future, it could be worth making a quick diversion to Chelmsford.
The ten-furlong Bet In Play At totesport.com Fillies' Novice Stakes sees siblings to two Group 1 stars making their debut, with one having received that update only this week.
Fly The Flag is an Australia half-sister to Coronet, who ended a string of close efforts at the highest level by taking the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.
Like Coronet, Fly The Flag is a grey Denford Stud homebred placed in training with John Gosden, although she has clearly needed more time as she has reached three years of age already. Part of a long line from Faisal Salman’s Berkshire stud, Fly The Flag’s dam Approach has also thrown the Irish Derby runner-up Midas Touch.
Gonbarda, a German Group 1 winner acquired by Godolphin, has delivered another smart brother in Racing History, who turned in a string of consistent efforts at the Dubai World Cup Carnival. Multiple winner Basem and Dubai Thunder, who made a spectacular racecourse debut at Newbury before making his only other start in the 2017 Derby, are others from the mare.
Inference, a Cheveley Park Stud-bred Intello filly from the Gosden yard, sets the standard on the basis of her three runs so far.
