Scalo to relocate to Yorton Farm for 2020 breeding season
Son of Lando sired this year's Deutsches Derby winner Laccario
Scalo - the sire of this year's Deutches Derby winner Laccario - has joined the stallion roster at Yorton Farm Stud on the border between Powys and Shropshire.
The son of Lando is sure to be welcomed by National Hunt breeders with his own sire having supplied the likes Air Force One, Caracciola and Fox Norton over jumps.
"We've secured Scalo with the help of bloodstock agent Richard Venn and are delighted that the horse is joining our roster," said David Futter.
"We've been keeping an eye on him for some time and in common with other proven horses we've stood, it was his stock which caught our eye first.
"They're great models with wonderful temperaments and are proving they perform at the top level. Not many Group 1-winning stallions breed a Group 1 winner themselves.
"From limited opportunities Scalo has had seven runners over jumps in France and three individual winners. His percentage of winners to runners is 58 per cent."
Bred and raced by leading German stud farm Gestut Ittlingen and trained by Andreas Wohler, Scalo was precocious enough to win as a two-year-old and became a leading performer at three, winning the Group 1 Preis von Europa at Cologne and the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano in France, as well as two further Pattern prizes in his homeland.
On his seasonal reappearance, he prevailed in the Group 2 Gerling-Preis at Cologne, before finishing a close second in the Gran Premio di Milano. His final start as a four-year-old saw him finish second to subsequent Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Danedream in the Grosser Preis von Berlin.
Scalo comes from a high-class family and is out of the Exit To Nowhere mare Sky Dancing, making him a full-brother to the Group 2-winning stayer Sound, as well as a half-brother to the Group 3 Prix Chloe winner Sexy Lady and multiple Group-placed Scolari.
Yorton Farm's new recruit stood his first five seasons at Haras du Logis Saint Germain, before standing a single season at Haras de Sorelis last year and the latest season at Haras de Gelos.
A stud fee for Scalo - who will stand alongside Gentlewave, Norse Dancer and Pether's Moon - will be announced at a later date.
