Sans Frontieres supplies first winner as Lomachenko lands maiden hurdle
Four-year-old gelding overcame an error at the final fence to win going away
Beeches Stud resident - who remains a €2,500 option for breeders next spring - sired his first winner on Friday when four-year-old gelding Lomachenko overcame a final-fence error in the opening maiden hurdle at Leicester to win going away by six lengths.
Second was Accordingtogino, a five-year-old son of Perugino who landed a Lisronagh maiden by the same margin in April.
Lomachenko is trained by Nicky Henderson and is owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, who purchased him privately from trainer Stuart Crawford before he made his debut.
Crawford and his brothers had purchased Lomachenko for €18,500 as a store from part two of last year's Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, when he was offered by Lismakeera Stud, who had previously purchased him as a foal for €7,800 from the Goffs December Sale.
Lomachenko is a half-brother to Castletown Bridge, winner of a Worcester bumper for Gordon Elliott, out of the winning Petardia mare Midnight Orchid, a half-sister to Dovecote Novices' Hurdle winner Buddy Marvel.
Flat enthusiasts will be familiar with this pedigree as their unplaced dam is a half-sister to To-Agori-Mou, winner of the 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes in 1981.
Sans Frontieres was sold by his breeder Lavington Stud for 450,000gns as a Book 1 yearling and subsequently went on to win the Irish St Leger in the chequered silks of Sir Robert Ogden.
He is also the sire of Treasure Dillon, a six-length winner of his four-year-old maiden at Tattersalls Farm.
