Roaring Lion half-brother to Subjectivist ready to make his racecourse bow
The Qatar Racing-owned colt was a 450,000gns buy from Tattersalls Book 1
The mile and a quarter maiden at Lingfield on Saturday might arouse interest during the typically dormant period for Flat fans as the Gosdens saddle a Roaring Lion half-brother to Gold Cup winner Subjectivist and the multiple Group scorer Sir Ron Priestley.
Shadow Of War was bred by Mascalls Stud and made 450,000gns when selling to David Redvers at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2021.
Roaring Lion already has a Group 1 winner from his sole crop, courtesy of Dubai Mile in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud last month, but his latest well-bred son could add another string to his bow.
He is the sixth foal out of the Listed-placed Danehill Dancer mare Reckoning and is therefore a half-brother to the aforementioned Subjectivist, currently on the sidelines due to injury but an excellent winner of Royal Ascot's feature event in 2021.
The pair are also siblings to the very smart Sir Ron Priestley, a son of Australia who struck in a brace of Group 2s, namely the Princess of Wales's Stakes and Jockey Club Stakes, as well as finishing second in the St Leger to Logician the following season. He is now standing at Haras du Saz.
Another sibling in Group 2 Rockfel Stakes third Alba Rose is due to be sold in the new Sceptre Session at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
Among Shadow Of War's 13 rivals is another well-bred sort in the Anthony Oppenheimer homebred A Gift Of Love. The daughter of Frankel is out of the stakes-winning Shamardal mare Our Obsession and from the family of Rebecca Sharp and the dam of Golden Horn.
A Gift Of Love is therefore a full-sister to two winners including the Musidora Stakes second Frankellina.
Also among the field is Lanwades Stud homebred Empress Wu, a daughter of Sea The Moon and out of a winning full-sister to Group 1 heroine Madame Chiang, and Sierra Vista, a colt by Almanzor and out of a winning Galileo full-sister to the top-class Magical and Rhododendron, herself the dam of this year's Vertem Futurity Trophy winner Auguste Rodin.
