Roaring Lion, world champion three-year-old and Cartier Horse of the Year for 2018, has got his nascent stallion career at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire off to the right start with his first mares scanned in foal.

Those early mares confirmed pregnant include the Qatar Racing-owned Common Knowledge, a granddaughter of Highclere who has produced Group winners Astrophysical Jet and Coral Wave.

Roaring Lion has also already covered Falmouth Stakes heroine Giofra and has at least another seven Group 1-winning mares in his debut book, including Bateel, Golden Lilac, Just The Judge, Lightening Pearl and Simple Verse.

David Redvers, Qatar Racing manager and owner and manager of Tweenhills, said: “In everything Roaring Lion has done so far he has excelled and therefore it is no surprise to see that his first three mares have all been scanned in foal.

“He is having a busy season but has taken to his new role with aplomb.”

Roaring Lion is covering at Tweenhills at a fee of £40,000 alongside fellow newcomers Lightning Spear and Zoustar plus Charm Spirit, Havana Gold and Hot Streak.

Another new stallion who has got off to a good start is Bearstone Stud resident Washington DC, with the placed Society Rock mare Fab scanned in foal to him.

Fab is out of the Listed-placed Dubai Destination mare Dubai Princess, a half-sister to Swiss Lake, the Listed-winning dam of a clutch of classy sprinters including Swiss Diva, Swiss Dream and Swiss Spirit.

A son of Zoffany, Washington DC stands at Bearstone Stud alongside Fountain Of Youth, with his debut fee set at £6,000.
