Popular French jumps sire Tirwanako joins Knockhouse Stud roster for 2020

French jumps sire Tirwanako has been purchased by Knockhouse Stud and will relocate to Sean Kinsella's Kilkenny farm for the 2020 breeding season.

The son of Sin Kiang leaves Haras de la Clayette, from where he sired the likes of talented chaser Aloomomo.

"We've been following the horse for some time now and we really liked what stock we have seen by him, they are very athletic and forward types," said Kinsella. "To date his point-to-point runners have been very promising.

"He's the type of stallion who will be well-suited to Irish breeders."

His youngstock have been in high demand at the sales, with two four-year-old point-to-pointers fetching six-figure sums in 2019.

Ed Bailey went to £280,000 for the winning Adrimel at the Goffs UK Aintree Sale, while Gavin Cromwell gave £130,000 for the Moig South runner-up Gabynako at the Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale.

Gabynako was consigned by John Bleahen of Lakefield Farm, and the leading store sale vendor is among the stallion's fans. He said: "I saw the stock in France and I was very taken with what I saw so I'm looking forward to purchasing more of them in the future."

Tirwanako won the Listed Prix Grand du Prix Conseil General over a mile and a half and was second in the two-mile Group 3 Betty Barclay Rennen. His pedigree is free of Sadler's Wells blood, while he is inbred to the great mare Almahmoud through her daughters Natalma and Bubbling Beauty. He is out of Alhena, a daughter of the champion sire Kaldoun.

Knockhouse's new recruit will stand alongside Libertarian, Notnowcato, Prince Flori, September Storm and Derby hero Workforce.
