Pivotal moment for 450,000gns Chuzzlewit at Redcar on Wednesday
The Showcasing brother to triple Group 1 winner Advertise makes his debut
The pedigrees of two very interesting newcomers in Redcar's six-furlong juvenile novice (2.00) on Wednesday revolve around Cheveley Park Stud's outstanding late stallion Pivotal.
It is in the role of broodmare sire, a part he plays with aplomb, that the Nunthorpe and King's Stand Stakes winner features in the pedigree of the first eye-catching runner; Chuzzlewit, a 450,000gns purchase by Kevin Ryan from breeder Cheveley Park, at Book 1 last year.
Running in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid the Showcasing colt is out of Furbelow, which makes the bay a full-brother to Group 1 Commonwealth Cup, Phoenix Stakes and Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Advertise.
Now a six-year-old, Advertise stands at the National Stud in a venture with Manton Park Stallions and his first crop of yearlings will be tested in the sales ring over the coming weeks.
Chuzzlewit holds an entry in the Gimcrack Stakes next month so evidently is thought of quite highly, without being as early a starter as his older brother.
By this stage of his juvenile season Advertise had won the July Stakes and been second in the Coventry Stakes as well as winning his maiden on debut in mid-May. He would go on to victory in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh before ending the campaign as runner-up behind Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst.
At three, he was second to Ten Sovereigns in the July Cup in addition to his brace of Group 1 successes.
Advertise is the best foal so far produced by Furbelow, who was trained by Jeremy Noseda to win a six-furlong maiden at three. She is a Pivotal full-sister to Red Diadem, who was a Listed winner at Del Mar, and a three-parts sister to Adorn.
Furbelow has a yearling full-sister to Advertise and Chuzzlewit.
Pivotal plays the part of sire in the pedigree of another Cheveley Park-bred colt who makes his debut in the same race. CawthornesGem, trained by Tim Easterby, comes from one of the Newmarket nursery's most iconic families.
He is a three-parts brother to Lockinge Stakes winner Virtual (by Pivotal) and to Quixotic, the dam of Camelot's first Group winner Fighting Irish. Cawthornes Gem is also closely-related to Iceman, the ill-fated Coventry Stakes winner by Polar Falcon.
Second dam Virtuous was third in Lingfield's Oaks Trial and is a daughter of Exit To Nowhere and Exclusive Virtue. She is a Shadeed half-sister to Coronation Stakes winner Exclusive, the dam of Group 1 Matron Stakes winner Echelon who is the dam of Integral, successful in the Sun Chariot and Falmouth Stakes.
Exclusive Virtue's half-brother Entrepreneur won the 2,000 Guineas and her Cheshire Oaks-winning half-sister Dance A Dream is the dam of Group 2 York Stakes winner and Eclipse third Pipedreamer.
The fourth dam, Exclusive Order, was victorious in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.
Cawthornes Gem was sold as a foal from Cheveley Park Stud to Bobby O'Ryan for 16,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale and made £22,000 as a yearling at Goffs Premier Sale, where he was bought by Jamie Piggott from Trickledown Stud.
