Perfect Ten: No Nay Never colt romps to Round Tower Stakes victory

Coolmore first-season sire No Nay Never continues to make a striking impression with his debut juvenile runners, and Ten Sovereigns became the son of Scat Daddy's fourth stakes winner with an easy victory in the Group 3 John Sisk & Son Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

Ten Sovereigns – trained by Aidan O'Brien for the Coolmore partners – had burst onto the scene with a seven-length win in a 25-runner maiden at the Curragh on debut last Saturday.

He made no mistake on his second start either, racing prominently under Donnacha O'Brien and easing to the front a furlong from home before stretching clear under a hands and heels ride.

The distant runner-up was the Michael O'Callaghan-trained Bruce Wayne, by another freshman sire in Slade Power, with the winner's Ballydoyle stablemate Fantasy, an Invincible Spirit half-sister to Halfway To Heaven, in third.

Aidan O'Brien revealed after the race that Group 1 company at Newmarket would likely be the next step for Ten Sovereigns.

"You'd have to be very happy with that," he said. "When he hit the front he really opened up. The Middle Park is the plan and he should have enough experience for it now.

"He's fast and he's a relaxed colt and a very clear-winded one. He does everything very easily and should have no problem getting seven furlongs.

“We'll see about a mile, but often if they're good enough they'll get a mile okay."

Ten Sovereigns was slashed by bookmakers to around 7-1 to 10-1 for next year's 2,000 Guineas.

The colt was bred by Camas Park, Lynch Bages and Summerhill and is the fourth foal out of the Listed-placed Exceed And Excel mare Seeking Solace, a half-sister to Meydan Group 2 runner-up Flash Fire bought by BBA Ireland for 65,000gns from the Darley draft at the Tattersalls July Sale of 2011.

Seeking Solace and Flash Fire are out of the Group 3-placed Theatrical mare Flamelet, a half-sister to the dams of Australian Group 1-winning sprinter Shamal Wind and Rockfel Stakes scorer Al Thakhira.

Flamelet was in turn out of Cherry Hinton Stakes runner-up Darling Flame, a daughter of Capote and US Grade 1 winner My Darling One.

Ten Sovereigns is the second exciting Group-winning two-year-old for Coolmore this year out of an Exceed And Excel mare after Futurity Stakes winner Anthony Van Dyck, who is by Galileo out of Believe'N'Succeed.

Ten Sovereigns was knocked down to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 200,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, and his full-sister is available in the Camas Park Stud draft at Book 1 of the same sale next month.

No Nay Never, who stood at a fee of €25,000 this year, is responsible for 19 first-crop winners headed by Richmond Stakes winner Land Force, Listed victors Servalan and Mae Never No and Phoenix Stakes third The Irish Rover.
