Old age claims former Lane's End stallion Belong To Me at 31
Lane's End stallion Belong To Me has died at the age of 31 due to infirmities from old age.
The multiple Graded stakes-winning son of Danzig stood at Lane's End for 22 years and shuttled to Australia for seven seasons. The New Jersey-bred sired three champions and 29 Graded stakes winners with earnings in excess of $77 million.
His top runners include 2008 champion turf mare Forever Together, Brazilian champion older mare Pippa, Australian multiple Group 1 winner All Silent, and three-time Grade 1 victress Jersey Girl.
Belong To Me was also an accomplished broodmare sire with two champions and 27 Graded stakes winners. He is the broodmare sire of Lookin At Lucky, Circular Quay, Jersey Town, and Papa Clem, all of whom went on to be accomplished sires themselves.
"Belong To Me stood his first four seasons in New York before being moved to Lane's End in 1998," Bill Farish said. "His stud fee reached a high of $40,000 after siring three Grade 1 winners in his first three crops: Jersey Girl, Lucky Roberto, and Circle Of Life.
"We would like to thank Antony Thompson's Widden Stud for taking great care of him during his seven seasons shuttling to Australia and also the shareholders who helped us bring him to Kentucky. Belong To Me spent 22 years at Lane's End and will be deeply missed."
Belong To Me was pensioned from stud duties in 2013.
