No last dance for Berlin Tango as he transfers to Hong Kong

Berlin Tango, whose notable achievements this year include a defeat of King Edward VIIth winner and Saturday's Investec Derby contender Pyledriver, has been sold to continue his career in Hong Kong.

Bred and owned by George Strawbridge and trained by Andrew Balding, the well-related three-year-old landed a novice event at Ffos Las and was twice placed in Listed races during his juvenile campaign.

Brought back to the track in March, he was second in the Kentucky Derby conditions event at Kempton before returning to the Sunbury Polytrack a month ago to take the Group 3 Unibet Classic Trial with a robust performance under David Probert.

Berlin Tango delivered what was to be his swansong for those connections at Royal Ascot, arriving full of running two from home in the Hampton Court Stakes only to be passed close home by Russian Emperor and First Receiver.

Alastair Donald of SackvilleDonald, who completed the transfer, explained: "He’s got the ideal profile for Hong Kong as he’s got mile and a quarter and fast ground form and has been really progressive for Andrew Balding.

"His form is stacking up well and hopefully he will be an ideal Hong Kong Derby type."

Donald continued: "He’s going to be going to Tony Cruz for a client of ours. He won’t run again here and has already been gelded. He’s currently chilling out and getting over his exertions, hopefully to ship out to Hong Kong in mid-August."

Berlin Tango is a son of Dansili out of Fantasia, who was placed in both the Fillies’ Mile and French Guineas for Luca Cumani as well as winning the Nell Gwyn and a Grade 3 in America.

Strawbridge has raced five of Fantasia's foals with Tasit and Jupiter Light both winning minor races. Balding has catalogued her Lope De Vega filly named Fantalope among his juveniles in training for this season.
