New stakes winners for No Nay Never and Sea The Moon

No Nay Never and Sea The Moon had very different attributes on the track – one a precocious and pacey sprinter, the other a later-developing middle-distance star – but they have one thing in common: both are impressing as first-season sires, appearing to be transmitting abundant class to their offspring.

The pair each registered a new stakes winner on Sunday, with No Nay Never's son All The King's Men making all in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Legacy Stakes over 5½f at Navan and the Sea The Moon colt Noble Moon running out a brave winner of the Group 3 Preis des Winterfavoriten over a mile at Cologne.

All The King's Men is a sixth stakes winner from the debut northern hemisphere crop of Norfolk Stakes and Prix Morny hero No Nay Never, after Ten Sovereigns (Middle Park Stakes), Land Force (Richmond Stakes) and No Needs Never, Servalan and Mae Never No, who have all scored at Listed level.

The seven-year-old son of Scat Daddy looks in line for a significant fee increase at Coolmore in 2019, having been advertised at a price of €25,000 this year.

All The King's Men is trained by Aidan O'Brien for the Coolmore partners, having been bought for €400,000 from the Camas Park and Glenvale Studs consignment at last year's Arqana August Yearling Sale.

He was bred by Ecurie du Grand Chene and is the seventh foal and one of five winners – but the first black-type performer – out of Group 3 Prix de Psyche victress Chaibia, a daughter of Peintre Celebre.

Chaibia, who is out of a Dayjur half-sister to Derby hero Erhaab, has a Camelot colt foal bred by Lynch Bages and Rhinestone Bloodstock, and she was covered by Zoffany this year.

The Peter Schiergen-trained Noble Moon led home a one-three for Sea The Moon in the Preis der Winterfavoriten, one of the most prestigious two-year-old races in Germany, with paternal half-brother Man On The Moon third.

Sea The Moon – the runaway German Derby winner by Sea The Stars who stands at Lanwades Stud – now has two stakes winners, as son Quest The Moon landed the Group 3 Zukunfts-Rennen at Baden-Baden last month.

He also has a double-figure tally of winners and is arguably outperforming expectations for a stallion whose progeny would be likely to improve at three and older.

Noble Moon carries the colours of Eckhard Sauren, who bred the colt out of the Group 3-winning Singspiel mare Nouvelle Noblesse.

His half-brother Noble Alpha was second in the Preis des Winterfavoriten in 2009 and went on to finish third in the German 2,000 Guineas and to win the Listed Macau Hong Kong Trophy, while two other siblings – Noble Champion and Noble Fantasy – also earned black type.

Nouvelle Noblesse is out of a half-sister to German Oaks third Nouvelle Fortune, the granddam of Nouvelle Lune, another by Sea The Moon who won on debut in Norway by seven and a half lengths and finished second to yet another by the sire, Privilegiado, in the Norskt Kriterium this month.

In a busy spell of freshman action, there were also new winners on Sunday for Slade Power, whose son Chairmanoftheboard was an eight-length winner of a 6f novice auction stakes on debut for Mick Channon at Goodwood, and Dunaden, who provided The Pink'n, the surprise winner of the 1m1f novice stakes at the same course for Seamus Mullins.
