New National Stud diploma students have illustrious alumni to look up to

Students of the Diploma in Stud Practice and Management at the National Stud have commenced their six-month training in Newmarket.

The course, which has been in existence for more than 30 years, aims to educate young people for a career in the thoroughbred industry.

The class of 2020 have come from a wide range of backgrounds and will spend until the end of June honing their practical skills and learning more about the inner workings of the thoroughbred industry.

The course's reputation has been well served by alumni who have forged successful careers in all facets of the industry.

Previous graduates of the diploma course have gone on to work all over the world and include well-known names such as Teddy Grimthorpe, Ed Harper, Rachael Gowland, Ed Dunlop and Angus Gold.

Tim Lane, stud director, said: “We are delighted to welcome the class of 2020, they are a very enthusiastic group and we are looking forward to working with them to provide the best experience possible over the next six months.

"The practical opportunities and access to industry figures the diploma students get during the course is, I believe, equivalent to about three years' work in normal circumstances."
