New Bay's son Sea Bay shines in Group company in Cologne

A week after securing his first Group 1 winner through Saffron Beach in the Sun Chariot Stakes, Ballylinch stallion New Bay looks to be responsible for the most exciting juvenile colt in Germany.

Sea Bay, domestically bred by Gestut Etzean, could hardly have been more impressive in the Group 3 Preis des Winterfavoriten, the country's signature two-year-old event, as he coasted nine lengths clear without jockey Adrie De Vries needing to give him any encouragement.

The colt was bought by Gestüt Winterhauch for €155,000 at last year's BBAG September Sale out of the winning Lord Of England mare Strawberry, a three-parts sister to the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin scorer Sirius.

Strawberry had already born fruit with her first foal, the year-older Samoa, landing a Listed race at Mulheim just a week ago. The same owners recently secured her yearling, a colt by Amaron, for €52,000.

Sea Bay had won a maiden for Henk Grewe at Hanover in August and emphatically turned the tables on Ariolo, who had finished ahead of him in a Listed event at Dusseldorf last month.

He is a fourth individual Group winner from two crops for New Bay, whose son from the same crop Bayside Boy won the Champagne Stakes and was third in Saturday's Dewhurst.
