It’s an old story, so new questions are something of a relief to Willie Austin. For more than 25 years, the veteran trainer of a number of decent winners has held a larger entry in the volumes of Irish racing folklore for one that he didn’t.

Austin is the man who bred - and sold - Danoli but, unlike somebody unwittingly flogging a priceless artefact in a car boot, he had understandable reasons for doing so at the time.

A single family that has charted the course of his training and breeding life continues to flourish, so much so that it appears directly on the page of an ante-post Cheltenham favourite in 2022, the highly-promising Blazing Khal.
